Undergraduate Academic Advising We know. We care. We’re there. Academic Advising is provided in a one-on-one basis. Troy University - Montgomery Campus advisors assist new freshmen, new transfer and returning students with course scheduling, and long-range academic planning. Advisors also help seniors review their programs to make sure that they are on target for graduation. Students can call, write, e-mail or visit the academic advisor of their choosing. Appoints are not necessary but can be made. Advisors assist students in achieving the following:
Do’s and Don’ts of Academic Advising Academic advising is a must. To get the most out of the experience, remember the do’s and don’ts which follow. DO: See your advisor. See your advisor when he or she can spend time with you. Periods after registration tend to be less hectic for students and the advisor. Keep track of your education (e.g. grade reports, classes taken, check-sheet, etc.) Bring your updated check-sheet with you to assist both you and your advisor. Assert yourself. Ask questions! Repeat questions and clarify answers. Take responsibility for reading about those rules and requirements that affect you. E-mail your advisor when you have problems. Don’t: Take advice from just anyone. “Somebody told me…” can get you into trouble. Wait until registration periods to see your advisor. Why would anyone want to sit in line for hours? Assume that your advisor has access to all of your records. Assume that your advisor will automatically tell you everything you need to know. Assume that only your advisor (and not you) should be familiar with the university’s rules and regulations.
