The Life of Mrs. Rosa L. Parks
The Montgomery Bus Boycott The Renaissance of Downtown Montgomery
|
The Renaissance of Downtown MontgomeryLocated between the $60 million expansion of the federal courthouse and a proposed large scale riverfront development project, TROY-Montgomery Campus has seized the opportunity to be a major part of the renaissance of downtown Montgomery. Along with the Rosa Parks Library and Museum, TROY-Montgomery Campus is created a beautiful campus plaza to serve as a gateway to The University. At the center of the plaza is a clock tower topped with a flame reminiscent of the University seal. New parking and a circular drive to the existing parking deck extensively landscaped, gives the campus a living organic feel. In addition to the University's projects, downtown Montgomery in recent years has seen a boom in construction and renovation. The Retirement Systems of Alabama has built numerous new buildings, including a twenty-four story office tower. A recently constructed Greek Revival style Judicial Building and the renovated historic state capitol building on Dexter Avenue add to the beauty of downtown. Along with all the new buildings have come parks, a baseball stadium, fountains, a reflecting pool, a child care center and entertainment venues. In addition, a new expanded Civic Center with high-rise hotel and a performing arts theatre are currently under construction, as is a new Alabama Science Museum for Children. |
