Directions to the Planetarium

The Gayle Planetarium is in 42-Acre Oak Park, which has been a city park for over 100 years.  However, as you enter the park's north gate, the signage giving directions to the parking area for the planetarium is not easily seen, nor very specific.

Here's how to get to the park, and where to park:

1) From the direction of the Eastern Boulevard, take I-85 South (toward downtown Montgomery) and take Exit 2 (Mulberry Street).  At the bottom of the ramp turn right and go to the end of Mulberry Street (about two blocks), where the street ends and you have to turn left onto Park Place.  Go three blocks on Park Place, which will dead-end into Forest Avenue.  You are now facing Oak Park and can see the white-domed roof of the planetarium through the trees. Turn right on to Forest Avenue, go about 200 feet, and turn left into the north gate of the park.

2) As you enter the park, bear to the right and follow the street all the way around the park until you are almost to the south gate exit. There are signs directing you to park along the curb on the left side of the street.

3) From I-65, take I-85 North (the signs will say "to Atlanta"), and take Exit 2 (Forest Avenue).  At the top of the ramp turn left, cross the bridge over the Interstate, and pass two traffic lights and Jackson Hospital. (You will be passing Oak Park and the Planetarium on your left.)  Turn left into the park's north gate about one block beyond the hospital.  Follow the directions in Paragraph 2 above for parking.
