LIBRARY POLICIES/PROCEDURES The Troy University Rosa Parks Library is located on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the Rosa Parks Library and Museum Building. Located on the second floor are general books and special book collections, a computer lab, an audiovisual viewing room, and three study rooms. Electronic databases, periodicals, newspapers, microfiche/microfilm material, and reference books are housed on the third floor of the library. Library
Computer Lab: Computers are available for patrons with a valid
Troy Student I.D.
during regular library hours. The computers provide access to the
Internet as well as basic computer software programs.
Books in the general collection may be checked out by Troy University students, faculty, staff and authorized Montgomery Higher Education Consortium (MHEC) patrons.
Non-Circulating Materials: Materials that may not leave the library include reference books, periodicals, newspapers, and closed reserve items.
Checkout Requirements: All patrons must present their current/valid Troy Student I.D. card to checkout materials from the Troy University Rosa Parks Library. Students may have a total of 20 books checked out at any given time. Materials are checked out at the 2nd floor circulation desk.
Loan Period: For students, the regular loan period for books in the general book collection is 3 weeks.
Renewals: After the initial checkout period, books may be renewed one time for an additional 3 weeks. Thereafter, the renewed book(s) must remain on the library shelf for 24 hours before the patron can re-check the book out for 3 more weeks. Renewals for books in the general collection are NOT granted via the telephone. All overdue books must be returned and fines paid before the item(s) may be renewed.
Overdue books: Fines for books from the general collection accumulate at the rate of $.10/day/book and may be up to but not exceed the replacement cost of the book. Fines for reserve materials are listed under "Reserve Materials". Patrons with overdue book fines and/or other library indebtedness will not be allowed to checkout library resources until financial matters are resolved.
Replacement cost for Damaged Material: Fines for damaged material will be assessed by the librarian and will cover the cost of repairing the item(s). In cases of extensive damage, full replacement price will be charged to the patron. Payment must be received prior to the end of the term in which the item was damaged.
Replacement cost for Lost Material: Any lost material should be reported to the library staff as soon as possible. Patrons responsible for lost library material are required to pay the current list price of the item plus a $5.00 processing fee. If a book is out-of-print, the current list price will be assessed at $25.00. The fine for a lost disk/CD is $5.00 and the fine for a lost Checkpoint card is $1.00. Payment for all lost items must be received prior to the end of the term in which the transaction took place. If the lost item is found after payment has been made, the book is treated as a regular overdue item. A refund is given for that portion of the initial payment that exceeds the overdue fine.
Audiovisual Material: AV software (films, cassettes, videos, etc.) may be checked out at the 2nd floor circulation desk for use in the library AV room. With special permission from faculty, some AV material may be checked out for use outside the library proper for up to 72 hours.
