Learning Contracts are courses that you can take without attending resident class sessions. With Learning Contract courses, you work on course assignments when and where you decide and communicate with your instructor when you need to ask a question or schedule an exam. Assignments can be turned in through regular mail, Email, or Fax.

The course syllabus for most of the Learning Contract Courses are now available online. Course syllabi and materials can be obtained by clicking on the course title in the list of learning contracts  or calling the Learning Contract Office.

A learning contract is an agreement entered into by one who wishes to learn and one or more individuals who assist the learner to attain desired learning outcomes. Troy faculty have developed independent learning contracts that parallel requirements in university resident courses. Learning contracts are available for most general studies and approved academic concentration courses. Most learning contracts are constructed to equal three semester hours. The maximum allowable time to complete a learning contract is six months from the signing of the contract. Extension of time limits must be granted only at the request of the contracting faculty member. However, course requirements may be completed in less than the allowed time. No incomplete, "I", grades may be awarded. Students may enroll in a contract course at any time simply by contacting the Learning Contract Office.
