Online Course Information

 

In keeping with the tradition of offering a college education that is convenient for adult students, Troy University Montgomery Campus offers interactive online courses.  These courses offer limited or no attendance, lectures on web pages, class discussion on bulletin boards, chat sessions, assignment submissions, and student/instructor and student/student communication through e-mail.

Students can register for these courses as they would for any resident Troy University course. 

Services provided online include:
Applying for admission and financial aid, viewing the course catalog, registering for courses, viewing Course syllabi, purchasing textbooks, searching the library catalog, viewing grades online, career services, academic advising, tutoring, and viewing student financial records.

Online courses have different proceedures than on-campus courses. Carefully read the following information about online courses:

COURSE SCHEDULE AND SYLLABI ARE AVAILABLE ONLINE - To view a list of all online courses and preview the course syllabi go to (http://www.troy.edu/ecampus/schedule/index.html).

ONLINE COURSE REGISTRATION PROCESS - Students who can register through WebExpress can register for online courses offered through the eCampus using WebExpress. To register for ONLINE courses go to: (http://montgomery.troy.edu) then (click on Web Express Internet Registration). In WebExpress you must select 08/T4 (for Term 4; same as Montgomery Campus Session B dates) and then input the appropriate course information for the course you desire. Then complete the appropriate steps for registering. You may also perform class searches via WebExpress for online classes. To do so, select class search in WebExpress, then 08/T4 for the desired term, and then input the desired course search information. Finally, you must select “ECAMP” in the location block to obtain eCampus online classes before clicking on the submit button for your search.

• BUYING BOOKS FOR ONLINE COURSES - The eCampus provides a Virtual Bookstore through which all books for online courses should be ordered. Instructions on how to order through the Virtual Bookstore are at ( http://www.troy.edu/ecampus/howtoordertextbooks.htm ). Students receiving federal financial aid may use book vouchers to purchase textbooks through the Virtual Bookstore. To do this, please submit the electronic book voucher. Instructions and the form are located at (http://www.troy.edu/ecampus/howtoordertextbooks.htm). After submitting the electronic book voucher wait 24 hours then call MBS Direct at 1-800-325-3252 to order your books. Please consult the eCampus Academic Calendar for the last day to use the Financial Aid Book Voucher. NOTE: If you choose to purchase books through the Montgomery Campus bookstore first view the online course syllabi at (http://www.troy.edu/ecampus/schedule/index.html) and make sure that you are buying the correct book. The textbook requirements for Montgomery Campus courses and eCampus courses may differ. It is the student's responsibility to make sure that they are purchasing the correct text book.

LOCAL STUDENT SERVICES FOR ONLINE COURSES - Students in the central Alabama area can still receive assistance face-to-face, via telephone or E-mail from the Distance Learning Center on the Montgomery Campus. The Distance Learning Center is located in the Rosa Parks Library and Museum building on the third floor in Room 305. The phone number is (334) 241-9764. DIFFERENT TUITION RATES - The tuition rate for eCampus (online) courses is different than that of on-campus courses. The tuition for undergraduate online courses is $185 per credit hour. Tuition for graduate online courses is $315 per credit hour EXCEPT for MBA courses, which is $440 per credit hour.

DIFFERENT REGISTRATION DATES – There are different registration dates for online courses than for local courses.  Registration for the next term of online courses is February 18 – March 16, 2008. 

DIFFERENT FINANCIAL AID/VA PROCESSES - If you take any eCampus (online) courses the financial aid disbursement schedule may be different. If you receive VA benefits and you take any eCampus (online) courses you will have to be certified by the VA office at the eCampus. For additional information, please contact the Financial Aid and VA offices.

DIFFERENT TEST PROCTOR APPROVAL PROCESS - The eCampus maintains a database of approved test proctors. Even if you have had a proctor approved by the Montgomery Campus, all students taking online courses must submit a new Proctor Form every term. The instructions and form are located at (http://www.troy.edu/ecampus/onlineundergraduateprograms/forms/proctorforminstructions.htm). Students living in the Montgomery area may use a test proctor or take their tests at the Gene Elrod Success Center. If you choose to use the success center when you submit the Proctor Form at the above address, enter this information: Proctor full name = Success Center; Proctor work phone = (334) 241-9530; Proctor E-mail address: (bpierce@troy.edu).

DIFFERENT TERMINOLOGY - The eCampus is on a five term academic calendar. The start and stop dates for the eCampus terms are the same as for the Montgomery Campus Sessions. The table below illustrates the new terminology usage for Montgomery Campus and eCampus:
