Show me how to log on to my online course.

STEP 1.  First determine if your online course is managed by Blackboard or not.  To do this go to http://montgomery.troy.edu/DL/internet/default.htm and scroll down to the bottom of the page.  You will see a link for Online Courses Offered.  Click this link and you will see a list of online courses.  Click on the course you are taking.  When you click this link one of three things will happen:

1.  If you see the course pop-up immediately, then you are taking a course which is not using Blackboard.  That is all you have to do.  You are at that point in the course.  You are encouraged to set that page as a bookmark in your browser for faster loading later.

2.  You may see a preview version of the syllabus.  This will allow you to preview the details of a course.

3.  You may be taken to the link to log in to Blackboard.  If this is the case, proceed to step two below.

STEP 2. Follow these instructions to log on to Blackboard.

What is Blackboard? Blackboard is an interactive online learning tool which allows you to receive course content, take tests and quizzes, participate in online dialog with your fellow students, and more. As with any other computer program, there are a few things you must know prior to using the program to enhance your learning experience. Please take a few moments to read the following instructions before trying to login to the course.

Internet Access (Browser) Recommendations

Blackboard does not support the America Online web browser. If you are using AOL as your Internet service provider, you will need to download and install Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape. You should use IE to access the Blackboard course site after connecting to the Internet via AOL. Once you are connected to the Internet, minimize the AOL browser screen and then click on the Internet Explorer icon to open Internet Explorer as your browser. To download Internet Explorer go to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads  and then select the latest version of IE and specify which operating system you are using, for example: Windows 98.  To download Netscape, go to:  http://home.netscape.com/download.

The universal URL to all Blackboard course listings is:

http://troyst.blackboard.com

After clicking on this web address you will be taken to the Blackboard (Bb) page where you can either login to Bb directly or view the course catalog (see login instructions below).  You are encouraged to set this address as a favorite in your Internet browser for quick access later.

STEP 3.  Login to Blackboard

If you have been given a username and password, click "Login."   If you do not know your user name and password go to this tutorial.

Enter your Username and Password when you see this screen. Or you can click the Preview button to preview a course before registering.

That is it.  For more information on how to proceed once logged into Blackboard, view this tutorial.
