Vicki & Mama: A Two-Woman Show

Emmy Award-winning performer Vicki Lawrence takes the stage in October in Vicki Lawrence and Mama: A Two Woman Show. Lawrence was a high school senior when chosen to become part of the now-legendary cast of The Carol Burnett Show. During her time on the show, Lawrence created the role for which she is most remembered - Thelma Harper or “Mama,” a beloved character who would inspire her own sitcom Mama’s Family. Although mostly known for her comedic work on these sitcoms, Lawrence also received a gold record as a recording artist for her hit single, "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia." This entertaining performance features both Lawrence and "Mama" in a mixture of stand-up comedy, music and observations about real life. Where the opinionated Mama is concerned, expect the unexpected!

An Evening of Romance Featuring The Montgomery Ballet

The company is proud to present “An Evening of Romance” featuring Surrender 2 Love and selections of classical and contemporary works from the Montgomery Ballet’s repertoire. Lazar’s Surrender 2 Love is a passionate and exciting contemporary work set to Nuevo Flamenco-style music. The ballet, created originally for the Joffrey Ensemble Dancers inNew York City, has been performed in 24 different states. Join the TROY Symphony Band and Conductor Ralph Ford for a stirring tribute toour armed forces with an evening filled with music that includes classic overtures, works by American composers, great marches and patriotic music. The evening’s program will culminate with a salute to the men and women who have served and are currentlyserving our country. The Symphony Band is Troy University’s premier wind band, featuring the top 55 musicians in the John M. Long School of Music. This nationally recognized ensemble is open by audition only at the beginning of each semester and gives numerous concerts year-round. Additionally,the band records and tours extensively throughout the southeast during the spring semester. Their latest recordings are available worldwide through outlets such as iTunes and CD Baby.

The Capitol Sounds, under the direction of John Jackson, returns to Troy University’s Davis Theatre for a great evening of musicand entertainment. Their concert will includeseveral selections from the Big Band Era,featuring the music of Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller and Harry James, just to name a few! The Capitol Sounds Concert Band in Montgomery, Alabama, is an all volunteer,non-profit organization supported by the City of Montgomery Parks and Recreation Department. As the official band for the Cityof Montgomery, the Capitol Sounds Concert Band frequently performs at events in and around central Alabama.


From Big Band to Broadway

The award winning Troy University Jazz Ensemble will close our University and Community Series in March with a memorable evening filled with music from Broadway musicals done in a Big Band style. The 2009 Troy University Jazz Ensemble I was recently selected as the Most Outstanding College Jazz Band at the 2009 Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame Jazz Festival in Birmingham. Of this group’s performance during the Festival, Dr. FrankAdams, Hall of Fame Director of Education Emeritus said, “This was an unbelievable performance by some of the best college players I have ever heard…You have a great Jazz program going at TROY.” This talented group is under the direction of Mr. Ray Smith who is currently a professor of woodwinds and the director of the “Sound of the South” Concert Band and Jazz Studies. This performance will also feature performances from the new Troy University vocal ensemble frequency and Troy University faculty vocalists Dr. Michael Hix and Dr. Meg Jackson.
